Advice FROM Sisters
As long as you go in with an open mind you'll find your home. When I went through freshman year I was so nervous, but it all works out. You'll end the week with 60+ sisters that are so happy to have you.
Use your recruitment counselors as a resource! They've gone through the process before and are there to help you every step of the way with any questions you might have. When I went through recruitment, my recruitment counselor helped calm my nerves so much before everything started and was there to listen when I needed her throughout recruitment.
Just be yourself and you can't go wrong!
Some people have preconcieved notions about Greek Life but Allegheny is such a different school, it isn't surprising the Greek Life here is too. My advice is to give it a try and see if its for you, because there is a home for everyone in Greek Life!
Recruitment can be stressful and nervewracking because you're meeting so many people at once but just remember it is only 3-4 days and at the end of the week is the most fun day of the year: BID DAY! I've found the most rewarding experiences to be those that test me, require I put myself out there and become vulnerable, push me to discover more of myself and recruitment was no different! One of the best decisions I've ever made.
Don't believe any stereotypes you hear about Greek Life or the sororities on campus! Aside from being one person's opinion, you'll find that those generalizations usually end up doing more damage than good. So talk to the ladies during recruitment and figure out for yourself where you think you could grow the most over the next 4 years.
Wear comfortable shoes!
Everyone's recruitment experience is different! Even best friends might find themselves feeling more at home in different sororities. That is totally normal. Remember, you're going to spend the next four years in whatever chapter you choose so make sure you're picking the place for you! Joining Greek Life means you're
joining a community, whether you join the same
chapter as your friend or not!
